A Stranger in a Strange TV Land
I've had cable TV for about two weeks now. One of the first things I noticed was that there are just as many annoying infomercials on cable late at night than on the air television. Secondly, I accidentally recorded a 24-year Twilight Zone marathon that I might have to pay for. I'm not sure if it was on demand or the IND thing. I dread getting my first bill. Something tells me the bundle of digital TV, cable Internet and phone is going to be a whole lot more than $89.99.

Since I am in perpetual policital vacuum I decided to watch FOX and CNN. Where do I being...?" From what I've seen of FOX--how is FOX "news" news? It's simply obnoxious talk radio on TV. Between the rantings I've seen on some FOX shows couple with the cruel rhetoric some in the Tea Party display towards the poor and working class (lower middle class) it's almost enough to make one turn into a card carrying Democrat Socialist (not gonna happen, but I am that disgusted).

CNN--biased of course in favor of the Left, but at least not as harsh towards the poor and working class. A little compassion people.

So neither FOX nor CNN is credible to me. Is it any wonder that I find myself  turning to Russia Today (RT) for interesting though biased news. If you haven't watched RT a few facts--it is funded by the Russian Federation and is subtly pro-Putin. This is RT America, which only broadcasts four hours a day. The reporters are British, American, or Russian but speak fluent English.

The ticker-tape scroll bar at the bottom of the screen (or whatever it is called) is interesting. The colors are green and white, which I associate with Hamas. I imagined RT would use either crimson and red or red, white and blue for their logo. It just struck me as odd.

But there's something I can't figure out--most scroll bars report breaking news, very current. For days, RT has inserted "President Putin promises transparency in the elections." Annoying author intrusion to use a literary term. There's news about Russia and Serbia, an earthquake and out of the blue Putin's election, and unless Putin repeats himself on that single issue day after day...

Another minor chuckle at RT's expense--Time Warner describes RT as "Inspirational/local."  Local to the US I imagine since RT American is broadcast here, though an icon constantly reports what time it is in Moscow.

Then there are the interviews. One of the anchors was interviewing one of Colin Powell's cronies about Newt Gingrich. I wasn't really paying attention to this (political zone out) but basically this Powell cronies was going on about how information about Gitmo and other controversial matters were suppressed or redacted. The RT anchor seemed outraged and went on a mini-rant about censorship in the United States and a lack of freedom.

Mr. Pot meet Mr. Black!

More RT coverage--RT (or someone in the Russian government) suggested that the US was flirting with a possible nuclear/world war by issuing sanctions against Iran. Israel, according to RT, would be dealing with "another Egypt" if they launched any form of retaliatory attack against Hamas (they avoided the name Hamas and used Gaza instead. They seem to avoid the word Hamas, for some reason, even though their banner colors are green and red.

I know, I am placing too much emphasis on colors in logo (ie. the red and black in the Occupy colors here).

So that's about it. I am enjoying cable TV more than I ever have, but watching FOX, CNN, and RT has me even more confused politically than I ever have been.

All I want for the US is smaller government, less taxes for working Americans, less vilification of the poor and working class, and a president who doesn't want to tank the country and put us at the mercy of terrorists.

Is that asking too much?

Honestly, is it??

(please excuse the typos. My cursor continues to jump upwards and insert words as I am typing them in the wrong place).
